How did Amador Elementary School become the "Home of the Owls"?
It took some time and work to come up with our school mascot and colors. Mrs. Holly Scroggins started by visiting Kolb Elementary students. She talked with students and members of the student leadership group. She wanted to get their input, because when J.M. Amador Elementary School opened, many of these students would be moving over to Amador. She wanted to find out what the students wanted.
They made a list of possible color combinations and possible mascots. Should we be fierce? Soft? Another cat? They discussed the other Dublin mascots and color combinations and eventually came up with a short list of options for the community to vote on.
A survey was developed and made available to the community. Over 230 responses were recorded. It was clear that the preferential colors were Burgundy and Gold and the favored mascot was the Owl.
Did you know that burrowing owls are native to the community around our school? The Home of the Owls feels purfect in every way!
