The successful national AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program serves the “student in the middle,” those who have a 2.5-3.5 GPA with average to high standardized test scores. Each year thirty students per grade level are placed in challenging college-prep classes along with an elective support class which they take throughout high school. The support class offers tutorial sessions, as well as lessons in time management and study skills, SAT/ACT preparation, and college exploration/preparation with guest speakers and field trips. Many of these students will be the first in their families to attend a four-year college.
