    School Boundaries & Assignments

In order to accommodate DUSD students, each residential area is assigned to a particular school at each grade level. An assigned school serves all students from its assigned attendance area who wish to enroll there. Intra-District Transfers provide choices for students who wish to enroll in a school other than their assigned neighborhood school. These approvals are based on space availability.

If you are unsure of what school your student should attend, please click the School Locator to enter your address.

In some instances, assigned residential schools become impacted by enrollment. Due to unavailable seats, a student may be diverted to attend in a school other than their assigned neighborhood school. We realize that diversions are challenging for students and families. As our district continues to grow rapidly, it is a process that we will continue to manage. Our goal is to make the process as easy on you as we can. Here are the steps in our diversion process.

    STEPS FOR DIVERSION:

    1. A determination has been made that there is no space available, for your child, at your neighborhood school.
    2. Your student will be diverted to a school where there is space available.
    3. The student will be placed on a list, in the order they were diverted (last one enrolled = first diverted/ first diverted = first to return to the home school).
    4. When space, at the home school, is available parents/guardians will be contacted via phone call and email with the contact information listed in Infinite Campus, our student information system to which you have access. Please ensure your information is current.
    5. A Parent/Guardian will be given one opportunity to return to the school of residence. You will be given 24 hours to decide.
    6. If parents do not accept transfer back to the school of residence, the school to which their student was diverted becomes their school of residence until they are promoted to the next school i.e., elementary school to middle school, middle school to high school.
    7. The student cannot return to the original neighborhood school unless an intra district transfer form is submitted only during the window of February 15th to March 15th. However, because of our impacted enrollment, submitting a transfer does not guarantee the transfer will be approved.

    BOARD APPROVES BOUNDARY REVISIONS

    December 12, 2017

    Boundary Changes Approved

At its regular meeting on December 5, 2017, the governing board of Dublin Unified School District unanimously approved a recommended scenario of revised attendance boundaries for several of its schools. The driving factor for these changes is the anticipated Fall 2018 opening of the new K-8 Cottonwood Creek School, located off Fallon Road in eastern Dublin.

Over the last several months, the District’s Boundary Committee has been gathering data and community input, and performing extensive analysis in order to develop and refine recommendations on the needed boundary changes. Not only was the District’s anticipated growth considered, but community involvement was also a key component in the Committee’s work. The process included several community input sessions, communication efforts, and other outreach activities in order to solicit feedback and suggestions from parents and other stakeholders. Included in the scope of work was the development of boundaries for the new school and consideration of potential adjustments to the boundaries for Fallon and Wells Middle Schools, as well as to those currently established for the existing K-5 elementary schools across the District.

The Boundary Committee, led by Mrs. Tess Johnson, Director of Student Services, presented a report on their work to the Board of Trustees last week, including its recommendation. Referred to by the Committee as “Scenario 4A,” the boundaries will effectively modify the feeder schools to the District’s Grade 6 through 8 middle schools. Students from Amador, Dougherty, Green, and Kolb Elementary Schools will feed into Fallon Middle School, while students from Dublin, Frederiksen, and Murray Elementary Schools will feed into Wells Middle School. Cottonwood Creek Elementary will accommodate grades K though 8. A map of the new boundaries appears below.

To ensure successful implementation of the new boundaries, the District is developing a comprehensive strategy to include the following components:

    1. Develop an Innovative Specialized Instructional Program at Cottonwood Creek School

    2. Develop a diversion procedure between Fallon and Cottonwood Creek for overflow students.

    3. Review the district-wide diversion procedure and share out at a February Board meeting.

    4. Develop a safe routes to school plan for Cottonwood Creek School:

    a) Fallon Road access to school

    b) Expansion of current major road access strategies

    5. Develop an interim housing plan (as needed)

    6. Consider possible bell schedule changes to alleviate traffic issues

    7. Develop a plan for 8th grade electives

Future updates will be shared with the public as they become available, and will be communicated through the District’s website at www.dublinusd.org.
