The Homework and Grading Committee has begun to meet this year and it is comprised of parents, teachers, administrators and students from the middle and high school. The committee is taking a closer look at alignment to board policy and consistent practices across school sites. The topics of discussion range from the purpose of homework, current practices in homework, alternative ideas to homework and the social emotional impacts of homework or no homework. At the secondary level, in addition to the homework topics, the secondary committee is looking at the purpose of grades, no zeros, grading scale and standards based grading.
The committee’s input is invaluable and we are using resources to help guide our discussions. Below is a listing of research articles on the topic of homework and grading.
