Dear Dublin Students and Families,
On behalf of the Dublin Unified School District, I’d like to welcome you back to what will be an incredible school year. We hope that you had an enjoyable summer and are looking forward to seeing your peers, teachers, school-site staff, and administrators this week.
As the 2018-19 school year ended, we had reached a two-year agreement with our certificated staff and passed a renewed parcel tax. That positive momentum carried over into the summer with Board approval of the final site plan concept and educational program for our future high school, the election of a new trustee member, groundbreaking for the Dublin High School Engineering and Science Building, renovations of the DHS track and field, new HVAC units at Dublin Elementary, and continued progress on modernization projects at Frederiksen and Murray Elementary Schools.
In addition, on the evening of June 25, I was asked by our Board of Trustees to consider coming out of retirement and serving as superintendent for the next two years. After serving as interim superintendent since April and meeting with our schools, staff members, and teachers, it solidified my desire to serve our community and see this district reach its potential. In the past, I had the honor of working for the Dublin Unified School District for 13 years, serving as the assistant principal and principal at Dublin High School, the senior director of secondary education and student services, and then as the assistant superintendent of educational services and human resources. Dublin has played a significant role in my life and I am ready to return and embark on this journey with you as your new superintendent.
As we begin this new year, I’d like to leave you with the words of Mother Teresa - “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.” Best wishes for an outstanding school year.
Dave Marken, Ed. D.
