Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Melissa Urizar
I began my career in education with Dublin Unified 16 years ago as a first grade teacher at Fallon- back when it was a K-8 school! I thoroughly enjoyed the 10 years I spent as an elementary teacher; however, through those years, I found myself focusing more and more on character education and the social and emotional well-being of my students. Fostering and building relationships not only with my students, but their families was (and continues to be) of top priority. Therefore, while teaching, I received my Master’s Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in School Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary’s College of California.
Entering my 6th year as a school counselor, I believe my role is to support all students, in making sure they feel safe, seen, and heard. I will cultivate kindess, compassion, and help build empathy for self and others. I will foster student’s strengths and help them build resilience by focusing on strategies such as growth mindset to overcome any barriers and challenges they may have not only in school, but in their personal lives as well.
As we navigate through this unique year of virtual learning, I look forward to working in collaboration with families and educators involved to support our students.
