My name is Joy Scarpinato and I am so excited to be a part of the Dougherty community. I wanted to share a little bit about myself in an effort for you to better get to know me. I was born and raised in Walnut Creek. I attended school in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, graduating from Northgate High School. I then attended Chico State University, majoring in Liberal Studies. I continued my education at St. Mary’s College, where I obtained my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, Administrative Credential and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I currently live in Danville with my husband David (pictured above) and my three stepsons.
I come to Dublin with nineteen years of experience in the field of education. This school year will mark my twentieth year in education. I began my career in the Antioch Unified School District, where I taught 3rd and 1st grades. After five years, I accepted a position teaching 4th grade at Murwood Elementary School in the Walnut Creek School District. In the seven years that I taught at Murwood, I was fortunate enough to teach a variety of grades, including two different combination classes. These experiences certainly helped to shape the educator that I am today. In 2012, I accepted a position as an Instructional Coach and also worked as the ELD Coordinator for the district. After two years, I accepted a position as the principal at Walnut Heights Elementary School, where I have worked for four years.
I look forward to an exciting year of learning and growth here at Dougherty. Go Dolphins!
