C-3 Updates
Posted by Carley Kennedy on 3/24/2020Good morning, C-3 families!
Happy Tuesday - I hope this finds you well and rested. I wanted to update everyone on a few things and share some more really great resources. First, regarding Zoom. We are still not legally allowed to use it as educators without the educator account/license. This is due to laws regarding student privacy. I understand there might be some loopholes around that, but I'm a rule-follower (especially when it comes to my students). The district has assured us that it applied for the educator account when the shelter-in-place first started and we should have it up and running soon. I am very excited to use this tool once we can.In the meantime, please remember to have your child check out the daily Flipgrid video I post on Google Classroom. This is a fun way for us all to see each other and keep in touch. Today's video will be a very special one - a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to AFFAN!! So, please have your child respond back with a thoughtful birthday message if they can. We want to all help make him feel the birthday love today.Daily Movement OpportunityI haven't tried this myself but wanted to share for those of you who are looking for some movement for your kids - Daily Wiggles and Jiggles at 8:45 am. It is put on by a Zumba Instructor who has been doing a kids' dance class for 30-40 mins daily. Its super cute and she takes song requests. Join any day at 8:45 am!Meeting ID: 6536383649Here is the link:Science OpportunityThis is an opportunity for live science labs. We used to have this woman come to our classes many years ago at Fallon. She is great! She is currently using Facebook Live to teach the labs. Below is the link to our Facebook page. On left side of Facebook will have a list that includes Videos, click on Videos and click on the Live link.

Candy Absorption Recording: https://www.facebook.com/STEMSpectrumofScience/videos/245158 253183970/ IXL Science and Social StudiesLastly, for now, IXL has opened up their science and social studies sections to all subscribers (we usually just have access to math). I've looked these over and I think the kids will love it! Please encourage your child to try them. They login using the same access via Clever as they do to access their IXL account for math.My announcements/linksI will be uploading my emails to my school district webpage, so you can find my announcements and links more easily. I know it is difficult to keep up with all of the emails and information.I'm sending love to all of our C-3 family! -

Class News 3-13-20
Posted by Carley Kennedy on 3/13/2020Dear C-3 Parents,
I hope this email finds you healthy and spending some quality time with your families. Per the announcement from the district today, the schools will be closed for the next four weeks (3 weeks plus the week of spring break).
Please see the link below to the lesson plans our third grade team here at Green has created for our students. While many of these lessons can be done online, some require hard copies of worksheets. I am going to furiously work on trying to get these copied for you this afternoon. We were originally planning on having the copies available for pick up at the school, but Dr. Marken has announced that all school offices will be closed, too.
Websites:
You will see some websites referred to in the lesson plans.
Students can log into these websites through Clever.com. Once there, they can login with their Google account.
Google Logins are:
User Name: lastnamelast4digitsofstudentID@mydusd.org (example: kennedy1234@mydusd.org)
Password: 2digitmonth2digitday2digityear (example: 092410)
Once students log in through Clever with their Google account, they should be able to access all of our district websites with their usernames and passwords automatically filled in.
Friday Folders:
Please check your child's Friday Folder for the following:* Math lessons for the next three weeks (1 lesson per day). Students should do the lesson from their textbook that corresponds with each worksheet first, then complete the worksheet.* Unit 7 assessment (please go over this with your child)* Graphic organizer for Opinion Writing lessons (you can also make a hard copy from the link in the lessons)* Reading book, Spending Time and MoneyYour child has also brought home our math textbook to complete each lesson. Please email me at anytime with any questions or concerns.
New Friday Folder Parent Signature Sheet: Please note that while there is a new cover sheet in the Friday Folder, your child will still be receiving their weekly behavior grade on the Friday Folder sheet. I will put an O, S, or N in the second column of the cover sheet.First Two Weeks of Lesson Plans:Teachers will be meeting on Tuesday to create additional plans/lessons.

C-3 News Week of 2-3-20
Posted by Carley Kennedy on 1/31/2020Dear C-3 families,
We’ve had such a full week! Students learned about the Chinese New Year, enjoyed an on-site Ohlone field trip, started an interactive fractions book, began creating their final biography informational writing projects, started memorizing their next poem (Abraham Lincoln) which they will present next week, made cards for the senior center as one of our Kindness Projects, enjoyed a Jr. Achievement lesson with Mrs. Pillars, started our new reading book, “Making Decisions," and helped their kindergarten buddies make a winter art project... to name just a few of our fun activities.
Curriculum for next week:
Math - Finalizing our fractions unit. Our Topic 10 test will be on Tuesday, Feb. 4th
Reading - Analyzing characters and plot
Vocabulary- advise, magnificent, nudged, carriage, bellowed, comrades
Spelling - (long oo and short oo) choose, food, foolish, good, looked, rooster, took, wooden
Grammar - Comparative and superlative words (example: better/best, sweeter/sweetest)Pronoun-antecedent agreement (example: Henry and John are working on their project.)
Science - Fossils
Writing - Informational writing
Ohlone Day was a huge success! The students enjoyed a day of hands-on learning about the Ohlone. They made cordage, played an Ohlone game of chance, practiced throwing a spear through a hoop, made paint with rocks and painted each other’s faces, and worked a pump drill. I’d like to thank Jeanne and Manoj for volunteering on this day.
Classroom Supplies:It’s that time of the year when we’re running low on certain supplies (especially with it being flu season). If you can donate any of the following, we’ll be very appreciative. Thank you!
*Kleenex
*Clorox wipes
*Pink, red, white tissue paper
*Liquid starch
Sicknesses:
The school and district are reminding all families to keep your children home if they are sick.
In C-3, we are working together to stay healthy by washing our hands regularly, making sure we get daily exercise, drink water, and remembering to cover our mouths with the crook of our arm when we cough.
Biography Project - Please make sure your child is working on his/her biography project for at least 10 minutes each day. We talk about this and write it in our Minder Binder every day at school. I am trying to teach the kids to do a little each day so they are not cramming right before their project is due. We are also working on the writing and research regularly in class. However, the poster project is the portion that is completed in-full at home (See the last page of the packet). Please also remind your child that the packet needs to be kept in their folder so they have it with them each day at school as well as each day at home. This way they can work on it in both places and do not fall behind when we work on it in class (if they've left their packet at home that day).Final Presentations are due February 11thRead Aloud/Pajama Day:Wednesday, February 5th is our Read Aloud Day. We are still hoping more parents/family members can sign up to read. Students can wear their pajamas on this day if they would like to.Readers:11:00-11:20_______________11:20-11:40_______________11:40-12:00 _______________1:00-1:20__Shikha__1:20-1:40__Tanu_________GATE Testing:If your child signed up to take the GATE test (and you returned the signed permission slip), he/she will take the GATE test on Monday, February 10th. The test will take place during the school day in third grade classrooms. Testing is usually about 2 1/2 hours. Students who are not testing will be doing third grade activities in another third grade classroom while the test is being given. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep the night before and eats a healthy breakfast. They will have regular snack recess break during the test as well as an additional break.Valentine's Day PartyOur C-3 Valentine Party will be on Tuesday, Feb. 11th. Our Room Parents are planning a fun celebration for the students to enjoy that morning.
