Important Information for Starting the Year

  • Here's some important information for the new school year:

    • Schedule:   Please see the John Green Bell Schedule for more information.
    • Supervision: For the safety of your child, he/she is not to be left unsupervised before or after school.  Parents are responsible for your child until you see your teacher open the door.
    • Timely Arrival to School: It is vital that your child be on time to school. Class begins right away and your child will miss valuable instructional minutes if he/she is tardy. It can also be very disruptive to our class when people are dropping children off late to school. Thank you for helping your child with this valuable life skill and for keeping disruption in our class to a minimum. In order to make the transition into the classroom as smooth as possible, I am asking that parents and siblings remain outside. Thank you for your cooperation.
    • Pick-up after school: Please pick up your child promptly at the end of school as children sometimes worry if one is late. For your child's safety, you must pick up your child at our door.
    • Nutrition Breaks: Please send a small, healthy snack and drink in a lunch box or bag labeled with your child's name to school. Consider this "brain" food (fruit, vegetables, cheese sticks, crackers, granola bars, etc. PLEASE LIMIT SUGARY SNACKS TO AFTER SCHOOL). Please pack snacks that your child can open by his/her self. Children are not allowed to share their snacks as there are many food allergies.
    • Clothing: Please have your child wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you do not mind getting paint, glue, etc... on. Even the "washable" paint is not always so! Please make sure your child wears non-skid shoes (i.e. tennis shoes). We will all be happier with fewer skinned knees! We also strongly encourage you to bring an extra set of clothes in a large Ziploc bag in case of an accident.
    • Labels: Please label all personal items with your child's name.
    • Toys at School: We are asking for your help to have your child keep his/her toys and beloved items at home. Toys at school are a distraction and can get lost.
    • Volunteer Opportunities:  Parents will  have opportunities to help the class by becoming a Parent Volunteer. Parent volunteers may help at home, in the classroom, at parties or on field trips. At Back-to-School Night there will be more information as well as volunteer sign ups if you are able to donate some time to help our teacher and students. Thank you.

Thanks for partnering with me on this wonderful kindergarten learning adventure!
