This is my third year teaching Computer Programming at Dublin High School (DHS). I will be teaching both AP  Comp Sci  A (CSA) and Comp Sci and Software Engineering (CSE). Both maintain a project based focus in pedagogy based on Project Lead the Way curriculum. CSA is registered as an approved AP course at DHS.  CSE is not currently taught for AP credit at the school, but will prepare students for the relatively new AP CSP test given by the College Board. See the College Board website at http://collegeboard.org for details.

I have over 30 years of experience in the computer  industry  that I  bring into the classroom, including helping to found Internet Archive (http://archive.org), working as the editor in chief of the leading web development magazine during the Internet boom (Web Techniques Magazine), and at various large and small companies, including NASA Ames Research Center. My strategy for teaching has been  to get students programming immediately using the Java game environment, Greenfoot (http://greenfoot.org), then formalizing the instruction as the year progresses.  More recently I have been trained in the PLTW curriculum and am adopting that into my teaching practice.

My interests include sports, especially basketball, where I have coached for 12 years, photography, swimming, hanging out with my family and friends, and most recently working on a “fixer upper” in the Sierra foothills.

This year, my classes will be managed using Google Classrooms.  Students are provided access during class. Please have them email me if they are having trouble accessing, or need to reestablish access.
