On behalf of the entire school community, I would like to welcome you and your student to Cottonwood Creek School. Having a child enter Developmental Kindergarten or Kindergarten is an exciting and emotional moment as a parent and as a student. It marks the beginning of what we hope to be an incredible thirteen or fourteen year journey in your child’s educational career.
This upcoming school year is going to bring so many new and amazing opportunities for your student. Including: new friendships, great discoveries, exciting learning, and the development of self-awareness and independence. The first year of school builds a foundation for your student’s learning.
It is Dublin Unified School District’s mission to educate every student to become a lifelong learner by providing a safe and supportive environment that fosters collective responsibility for each student’s success. In addition, we believe in cultivating curiosity and critical thinking, providing a balanced and comprehensive experience that bolsters achievement, integrity, resilience, flexibility, and strong sense of self-worth.
Students are going to experience strong instruction in the California Common Core State Standards in Language Arts and Mathematics, the New Generation Science Standards, and CA Social Science Content Standards. They are going to engage in joyful learning experiences and develop a love for learning and enjoyment of school. Our Kindergarten program is going to provide opportunities for your child to learn how to read, develop number sense appropriate for his or her age, strengthen communication and language skills, both verbal and written, and create a curiosity about science and social science revolving around the world in which they live. Students are going to engage in opportunities to express themselves through art, music and movement. Our Kindergarten Team is going to share more specific information with families at our Back-to-School Night Event in August.
The Cottonwood Creek Community believes collaboration is key to our students’ success. Research shows that parent involvement positively impacts social, emotional and academic achievement of students. Students, staff, parents and community members collaborate to continuously improve and empower lifelong learning and mold well-rounded students prepared for success throughout the 21st century.
There are many ways you can support and become involved in our school. Some of these include participation in School Site Council or Parent Faculty Club. Other ways include attending school-wide events, assisting inside the classroom or around the school on a regular basis or periodically for special projects.
We are looking forward to partnering with you and creating a wonderful educational experience for your child.
Lorianne R. Ventura, Ed.D.
Principal, Cottonwood Creek School
