California Department of Education has released its 2018 California School Dashboard

On December 6, 2018, the California Department of Education has released its second California School Dashboard (http://bit.ly/dusd-ca18dash), a site designed to help communities across the state access important data about K–12 districts and schools. The new dashboard shows that Dublin schools continue to maintain high academic performance levels based on 2017-2018 data. The District demonstrated high performance in Mathematics, English Language Arts, College/Career Readiness, Graduation Rate, (low) Suspension Rate, and (low) Chronic Absenteeism.

While the Dublin shows strong results in all key areas, the dashboard will help the District and its schools identify areas to target for improvement.

Dashboard Changes
The 2017 Dashboard evaluated schools, districts and county offices of education on four state indicators (graduation rates, suspension rates, test scores, and English learner progress) using California’s color-coded performance levels that take both status and change into account. The 2018 Dashboard brings two additional color-coded indicators into the Dashboard for the first time (Chronic Absenteeism and College/Career Readiness), reflecting the completion of a multi-year data collection cycle.

Updates and changes to the 2018 Dashboard include:

  • Chronic Absenteeism. Schools, districts and county offices of education that serve K-8 students will be evaluated for the first time with a red-through-blue color on the Chronic Absenteeism Indicator.
  • College/Career. Schools, districts and county offices of education that serve 9–12 students will be evaluated for the first time with a red-through-blue color on the College/Career Indicator.
  • Grade 11 Test Scores. Schools, districts and county offices of education that administer the Smarter Balanced Assessments in math and English language arts in grade 11 will be evaluated for the first time with a red-through-blue color on the Academic Indicator.
  • Dashboard Alternative School Status (DASS) Schools. The performance of students who attend alternative schools (such as continuation schools and community day schools) will now be factored into Dashboard indicators. Many of these schools are operated by county offices of education, and therefore these agencies will be evaluated by color-coded indicators for the first time.
  • Graduation Rate. The four-year cohort graduation rate reflects changes in methodology in compliance with the U.S. Department of Education requirements.
  • Participation Rate. Schools, districts and county offices of education will see an adjustment to their performance on the Academic Indicator if less than 95 percent of students participated in the state assessments.
  • English Learner Progress. With the transition to the new English Learner Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), the English Learner Progress indicator will only report on the results of this assessment on the 2018 Dashboard for information purposes.

Beyond maintaining its high performance levels in the six indicators, Dublin met the standards for all five local indicators, which include Parent Engagement; Access to a Broad Coast of Study; Local Climate Survey; Implementation of Academic Standards; and Basics: Teachers, Instructional Materials, and Facilities.

The State and Local Indicators are organized in three parts on the California Dashboard website: Academic Performance, Academic Engagement, and Conditions and Climate.

California’s future success depends on tapping into the potential of all students, so they graduate ready for college, career, and life. For schools to reach this goal, teachers, parents and the community need clear and useful measures of progress. As an accountability tool, the Dashboard will help the state and local communities identify strengths and challenges and create improvement plans.
