Cottonwood Creek’s Jasper Tran Named Dublin Unified School District New Teacher of the Year for 2018-2019

Dublin, CA – May 10, 2019 – Cottonwood Creek music teacher, Jasper Tran, has been named the Dublin Unified School District New Teacher of the Year for 2018-2019. Mr. Tran is dedicated to providing engaging and quality music lessons to the school’s elementary and middle school students. In his first year as a Dublin teacher, he built the Cottonwood Creek music program from the ground up and is continuously seeking opportunities to improve and expand. He takes initiative in creating musical programs and events for the site, including a winter band concert, open house performance, and multicultural night performance. Mr. Tran also has assisted in creating the Cottonwood Creek school song.

“It can be difficult to come into a school when you are replacing an established performing arts teacher,” said Dr. David Marken, Interim Superintendent, Dublin Unified School District. “But it’s even harder to come in and create a music program from scratch, in a new school. By all accounts, Jasper embraced the challenge and created an inspiring learning environment for his students. He is a great example of the type of exceptional teachers we have here in Dublin.”

Mr. Tran has a positive energy and a great sense of humor that is appreciated in any setting. He has built strong relationships with colleagues, students, and families. His classroom management skills are exceptional and he adapts them to fit the needs of the various grade levels that he teaches.

“I’m confident in saying that Mr. Tran will have a successful future as an educator,” said Maple Lai, Assistant Principal, Cottonwood Creek. “He has student interest at the forefront of everything he does. He is knowledgeable of the music content area, and continues to push himself to grow as an educator. He seeks out learning opportunities for himself and his students. Jasper has the qualities to be a phenomenal music teacher. We are incredibly fortunate to have him as part of the Cottonwood Creek community and family.”

Mr. Tran holds a Bachelors of Music Degree with an emphasis in Music Education as well as a California Teaching Credential from San Jose State University. He is currently a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and its state affiliate the California Music Education Association (CMEA); and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and its state affiliate the California Choral Directors Association (CCDA).

Mr. Tran being named Dublin Unified School District New Teacher of the Year follows the recent announcement of Mr. Jason Ewing being named the Dublin Unified School District Teacher of the Year.
