Extreme Heat Precautions for August 14 & 15

August 14, 2019

Dear DUSD Students and Families,

The Tri-Valley region is experiencing its second day of excessive heat, with temperatures expected to be near or just above 100 degrees. To keep our students and staff safe, especially those vulnerable to heat exposure, the District has recommended the following precautions be taken at all Dublin school sites on Wednesday, August 14 and Thursday, August 15, 2019.

  • PE, recess, and breaks should be held indoors.
  • Lunch should be held indoors.
  • Windows and doors should be kept closed.
  • Staff should be mindful of students and other staff members who are sensitive to heat-related issues.

We have given site leadership some discretion in implementing these precautions, so you may see morning recess or PE activity taking place at school sites while temperatures are still moderate.

Heat is also an issue for our student-athletes. As a precaution, we have asked our coaching staff to modify their training sessions to minimize exertion, emphasize hydration, stay out of the sun as much as possible, and spend time focusing on theory.

The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance, and we are doing everything we can to keep them safe and happy during this stretch of extreme heat.
