Curtis Haar Named Director of Elementary Education for the Dublin Unified School District 

Dublin Resident, Parent of Dublin Students, and Former Dublin Educator Returns to Take Leadership Position

Dublin, CA – August 29, 2019 During the regularly scheduled Board meeting held on August 27, the Dublin Unified School District (DUSD) Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of Curtis Haar as the district’s new director of elementary education. Mr. Haar brings 23 years of education experience to Dublin. For the last eight years, he has served as the principal of Walt Disney Elementary School in San Ramon. Earlier in his career, Mr. Haar spent 14 years in the Dublin Unified School District, where he served as a teacher at Nielsen Elementary and as a teacher and assistant principal at Dublin Elementary

Mr. Haar, a Dublin resident and father of two current DUSD students and one Dublin High graduate, earned his Bachelor of Arts at California State University, Fresno, and his Masters in Education at Chapman University. He has experience providing professional development for general education and special education staff. He served as a member of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District Special Education Task Force, Elementary Principal Leadership Team, Multi-tiered System of Supports Grant Team and led his school’s transition to a Magnet school by developing a performing arts and music academy.

During his tenure in San Ramon, Mr. Haar partnered with the Anti-Defamation League to earn a “No Place for Hate” designation for his school and took a leadership team to the Museum of Tolerance to build cultural proficiency and develop a plan to increase equity.

“The director of elementary education plays a crucial role within our district,” said Dr. Dave Marken, superintendent of the Dublin Unified School District. “Creating an environment that allows our youngest students and their teachers to thrive is a formidable task. We believe Curtis has the experience, passion and drive to achieve this goal. The value that his professional and personal connection to our community and the district brings to this position cannot be overstated.”

The district will announce Mr. Haar’s start date in the near future.
