Second Public Hearing Regarding Future Comprehensive High School Name Scheduled For August 4, 2020 Board Meeting
Naming Dublin’s Future Comprehensive High School
On October 22, 2019, the Board of Trustees requested the process of naming Dublin’s second comprehensive high school begin. A naming committee, composed of students, community members, and district staff was formed in November of 2019 and in January of 2020 the committee presented its recommendations to the superintendent. During the February 25, 2020 board meeting, those recommendations were presented to the board by the committee.
Per board policy, at least two public hearings were to be scheduled before the board makes its decision on the school's name. The first public hearing was held on March 10, 2020. A second public hearing was scheduled for the March 31, 2020 board meeting. Due to the COVID-19 school closures and the board meetings going virtual, this second public hearing regarding the name of the future comprehensive high school was postponed in a 3-2 board vote.
The board will now hold its second public hearing regarding the name of the future comprehensive high school on August 4, 2020.
NOTE: The purpose of the public hearing is to comment on the three options presented by the committee, not to introduce new options. During December 2019 and January 2020, the committee provided the community nearly a month to submit potential names for consideration. The committee received and considered 264 names from the community. This public hearing is focused on the three final names presented by the committee. After hearing public comments, the board could make its final decision on a name.
