Kenna Moirao, Forever in Our Hearts

Kenna Moirao

DUSD Community,

It is with extreme sadness that we inform you of the heartbreaking news that our beloved colleague, teacher, and friend, Kenna Moirao passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020 with her family by her side. For me, this is not only a loss of an exceptional professional, but a personal loss as well. For those who may not have known Kenna, she was a long-time educator and current third grade teacher at Frederiksen Elementary School. She will be dearly missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Kenna will always be remembered as an inspiring, kind-hearted, energetic, positive, and encouraging person who truly loved her school, her staff, and most importantly, her kids.

This past March, Kenna was honored with the 2019-20 District Recognition Award for her outstanding service at Frederiksen Elementary School. Over the years, Kenna was a guiding light for their school’s student council members and worked diligently with them to develop their leadership skills through fun activities and events. Those who knew her well describe her as generous, authentic, and personable - with a heart of gold. She was full of love and made each of her students feel like they were always the most important person in her life.

Kenna’s legacy will be remembered for her constant smile, contagious enthusiasm, and her ability to instill an excitement for learning in every lesson she gave, in and out of the classroom. She was a gift to all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, her family has let us know that donations can be made to the Culinary Angels in her memory. We will be creating a video memorial with photos of Kenna to share at the end of this week. If you’d like to submit a picture that we can include, please email communications@dublinusd.org by Thursday, August 27.

Our goal is to support our staff and students as much as we can during this difficult time in our school community. We have arranged for counselors to be available this week. Please contact your site leadership team for assistance. We are here for you.

Thank you for your love and support.

Sincerely,

Daniel R. Moirao
Acting Superintendent
Dublin Unified School District
