Incident at Fallon Middle School: Update January 1, 2021

January 1, 2021

Dear DUSD Community,

We continue to wait on an update from law enforcement regarding the incident that took place at Fallon Middle School on December 23, 2020. The Dublin Police have informed us that investigators are awaiting toxicology and autopsy reports to determine a cause. We do not currently have an indication as to when that information will be available.

There are a couple of theories regarding what has happened, but we again ask you to avoid speculation and wait for the investigators to provide the facts related to this case.

Once a cause has been determined, we are committed to learning from it so that nothing of this nature happens in the future.

We ask you to please keep the families and friends of our two DUSD family members in your hearts at this time. They have experienced a devastating loss.

If you are interested in supporting our stricken staff members, the CSEA and DTA are jointly collecting contributions.  If you would like to contribute, you can do so using Venmo (@csea439 or cseachapter439@gmail.com, or @Roberta-Kreitz), or Zelle (cseachapter439@gmail.com). You can also email CSCE President, Keoki Yee, at csea439president@gmail.com.

As information becomes available, we will share it with you.

Sincerely,

Daniel Moirao
Interim Superintendent
Dublin Unified School District

December 23, 2020

Dear DUSD Community,

It is with great sadness that I must inform you that the Dublin Unified School District lost a member of its family earlier today. What I can tell you now is that one of our Fallon Middle School team passed away on campus. Another one of our team members was taken to a local hospital for treatment. While we are not in a position to release their names or provide additional details, we can confirm they were part of our site custodial team.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of our lost colleague and also to the students, staff and community of Fallon Middle School. No matter how strong the Fallon Mustang family is, losing a family member at any time is tragic, but during this time of year, it is devastating.

We realize that some may need assistance at this time so we are making our counselors available to assist those students and staff who are struggling with this news. If you are having a hard time dealing with this situation, do not hesitate to reach out to any of the following counseling team members listed below:

  • Liz Buckley - 925-922-5249
  • Leor Levin - 925-922- 5391
  • Jennifer Lidster - 925-922-5221
  • Cynthia Walker - 925-922-5316

Attached you will find the Dublin Police Department’s statement regarding today’s incident. As the Dublin Police Department makes more information available we will share it with you.

As we stated earlier today, you may not have all the information you’d like, but we ask that you avoid speculation and allow our partners at the Dublin Police Department to provide us with the facts. Speculation helps no one.

We’d also like to thank the Dublin Police, Alameda County Fire Department and the other first responders that assisted at Fallon today. We are forever grateful for the work that you do and the service you provide to our community.

Finally, I know that this has been a tough year for our community. If we have learned anything in 2020 it is to appreciate what we have and to remember to tell our family and friends that we love them.

Sincerely,

Daniel Moirao
Interim Superintendent
Dublin Unified School District
