Introducing the New California Dashboard

March 15, 2017

Dear Dublin Families,

California is field-testing a new website designed to help communities across the state access important information about their local school districts, and the new website is being released publicly by the State this week.

The California School Dashboard, which can be found at, features easy-to-read reports on multiple measures of school success, including test scores, graduation rates, English Learner progress and suspension rates for every District and school in the state. The Dashboard is part of California’s new accountability system based on 2013’s Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). It is the next step in a series of major shifts in public education that have raised the bar for student learning, transformed testing and placed a focus on equity for all students.

NOTE: Some of our schools will not have data represented in the Dashboard for 2016-17 either because of their small student population or because they are new schools without enough data to show “growth” in Dashboard measures. Please contact site leadership if you need more information.

We know our families are going to have many questions about this new accountability tool and the work we do in Dublin.

Why a new system?

The Dashboard is a key part of the State’s commitment to transparency and continuous improvement. Parents, community members, teachers and district leaders need clear and useful measures of success and progress. As an accountability tool, the Dashboard will help our District identify areas in need of targeted assistance, resources and reinforcement.

What’s different?

In the past, accountability systems for districts and schools have relied solely on a single-measure -- test scores. A single-number (called the API score) was used to project a school or district’s overall quality to the community. The new Dashboard provides information on multiple aspects of student performance, examines measures not attached to testing, and provides a more complete picture of a school or district’s progress. The Dashboard also measures growth over time to show improvement.

What’s next?

The Dashboard is a work-in-progress. Metrics and reports will be added in the coming years. During this first year (the field-test phase), the state will gather feedback to make additional modifications.

What will Dublin do with this information?

The information reflected in the Dashboard will inform our work as a District going forward, including the development of our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) at the district-level and the Single Plans for Student Achievement (SPSAs) at the school sites.

We are evaluating the new information and working with district and school site leaders on ways to better align our resources and priorities. Our goal is to continue to provide the best educational opportunities to all students.

We are committed to assuring that all of our students are prepared for college and career and we are confident that our community will find this new Dashboard to be an informative tool in guiding us to achieve that goal.

If you have questions about any of the results for your individual school site, please contact your site principal. We have added a one-page infographic to assist you in navigating the features of the new Dashboard.

Thank you as always for being amazing partners in the education of the children of Dublin!
