History of Frederiksen School

C.H. Frederiksen Elementary School  was named after Christian Hansen Frederiksen,  Murray School District trustee (1903-1906) and local farmer.  Christian served as a trustee on the Murray School District Board from 1903 to 1906.  His son, Arthur was employed by the school district from 1952-1978.   Christen Hansen Frederiksen was born 21 January 1859 in Denmark. He arrived in the United States around 1879 or 1880. He probably left Denmark because of an economic depression in northern Europe at the time. In the 1880 census he was listed as a farm laborer. Frederiksen probably farmed land at various locations including an area along what is now Dublin Blvd. between Regional Street and Golden Gate Drive.
He married Marie “Maggie” Catherine Schmidt on 15 December 1887 in Dublin, California. They had three sons and one daughter.
He became a U.S. citizen on 22 July 1892. At that time, he was 33 years old and his naturalization papers listed his occupation as farmer. From 1903 through 1906, he was a trustee of the Murray School District.
He lived in Dublin until about 1906. He moved to Livermore and was registered as a voter there in 1908. He died 23 September 1927 and was 68 years old. He was buried in Livermore.
