C-3 News 12-6-19

Dear C-3 Families,
Happy Friday! We've had a fun and busy week of learning.  We also had some great guest teachers: Yen, Nova's mom, taught a really fun art class on Thursday and Julie, Ethan's mom, led a very special Project Cornerstone lesson on Friday.  This week also marked Mrs. Morada's last day with our class as a student teacher.  We will miss her! We do have another student teacher starting her placement with me when we come back in January.  We look forward to having her join our C-3 family.
Please see the following message regarding GATE from the district office:

In early February, all Elementary and Middle School sites are offering the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to identify students who are eligible for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE).
To register your child to be assessed for GATE eligibility, please visit the DUSD GATE information page and fill out the GATE Permission to Test Form electronically.  Please note, if your child has already been assessed and met the eligibility for GATE, they do not need to retake the test.
If you have any questions, please contact our Educational Services Department.
Giving Bags
Our third grade classes are putting together giving bags for those in need.   If you are able to donate any of the following items, please send them in by next Friday, Dec. 13.  Our class will assemble the bags either that Friday afternoon or on the following Monday, and I will drop them off to the contact from the Livermore Cold Weather Homeless Shelter (who also partners with Open Heart Kitchen) by Dec. 20.
Top requested items:

-New pair of socks
-Hand warmers (gel packets, sold at Costco and elsewhere)
-Large, heavy-duty black garbage bags, as would be used for yard clippings; these are used by the homeless to hold their belongings and/or as a rain jacket)
-Travel sized pack of tissues/Kleenex
-Pack of hand wipes or hand sanitizer (travel sized)
-$5 gift card to McDonald's
-Chocolate or other candy
We will add a small note and drawing from a student, which will not contain the student's name or any personal information.
If we are short on items in any categories, I will donate the rest.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.  I'm excited to get the students involved in this act of charitable giving!
Our Curriculum Updates for next week:
Math - Division
Grammar - Review of singular and plural possessive nouns and comparative and superlative adjectives.
Writing - Creative writing with winter stories
Social Studies - The Ohlone People
Our holiday party will be on Thursday, December 19th from 12:40-3:00.  More information to come.
Have a wonderful weekend!
